Bydgoszcz back for 2013

The FIM Speedway Grand Prix series returns to the legendary Polonia Stadium in Bydgoszcz on April 20, 2013 after rights holders BSI Speedway agreed a one-year deal with the city. The event, titled the 2013 European FIM Speedway Grand Prix, takes the place of the round staged in Leszno.Bydgoszcz last hosted an SGP event on October 9, 2010 – the night hometown hero Tomasz Gollob finally got his hands on the World Championship in front of a sell-out crowd. This will be first European-based round of the 2013 season and the 15th Grand Prix staged at the ZKS Polonia Stadium. Incredibly, seven of the 14 held in Bydgoszcz have been won by Gollob. The track hosted the epic FIM Monster Energy Speedway World Cup Event One in July, when just two points separated meeting winners Russia, runners-up Poland and third-placed Denmark.BSI Speedway managing director Paul Bellamy is confident Bydgoszcz can live up to its glorious reputation once again. He said: "It's a great pleasure to be able to bring the FIM Speedway Grand Prix series back to one of its most fabled venues."Bydgoszcz has always produced superb racing and the World Cup meeting there in the summer will go down as one of the competition's all-time classics."Tomasz Gollob's record at this stadium is extraordinary and he will take some stopping there. But I'm sure a strong 2013 SGP field will be up for the challenge."Communication IMG Worldwide - www.imgworld.com -
