MotoGP: The Mathematics of Marc Marquez

Casey Stoner’s retirement announcement marked the – unhealthily early – opening of MotoGP’s silly season, and with just two weeks having passed, it is, in the words of Nicky Hayden, “too early to start thinking about that.” At the moment, factories, teams, and riders are still absorbing the news and pondering their strategy for the many talks and negotiations which will surely follow. Though the paddock, the media, and the internet are full of speculation, ...

"Formula 1 is getting old." Darren Heath

Formula 1 Photographs - Blog - F1 Photos - Darren Heath Photographer

I'm inclined to agree completely with what he says (even though I'm 43 with two kids). Anyone any ideas on what F1 should do to move with the times?

Ticket prices? Online live broadcasting? Demotion and promotion like in football? A thread for some new ideas..

WSBK: Sunshine & Motorbikes for Race 1 at MMP

Memorial Day was finally greeted with some proper racing weather at Miller Motorsports Park, and World Superbike racing was underway Monday at WSBK’s only stop in the USA. With the Ducatis lacking speed on Miller’s long front straight, the Italain contingency made up for its horsepower deficit in MMP’s many curves. Surprisingly, this lead to Jakub Smrz taking the Superpole on Sunday, and with Carlos Checa and Davide Giugliano sitting on the front row, only ...

Williams capable of top five in Monaco, says Gillan | 2012 Monaco Grand Prix

Williams capable of top five in Monaco, says Gillan is an original article from F1 Fanatic. If this article has been published anywhere other than F1 Fanatic it is an infringement of copyright.

Start, Monaco, 2012Williams chief operations engineer Mark Gillan admitted he was “disappointed” with the team’s performance in Monaco.

He said: “The car was good enough for a P4 or P5 qualifying position and our race pace was also good so it is disappointing not to have come away from this event with a decent haul of points.”

Spanish Grand Prix winner Pastor Maldonado collected a ten-place penalty following a collision with Sergio Perez, then crashed into Pedro de la Rosa on the first lap of the race.

Of Maldonado’s collision with Perez, Gillan said: “I think that the incident was avoidable and therefore disappointing and that the penalty was therefore understandable.”

Team mate Bruno Senna qualified 13th and finishing tenth, scoring a single point.

Senna’s race was disrupted by the slow pace of Kimi Raikkonen, according to Gillan: “Bruno was very honest after qualifying admitting that he could have done better and he pushed hard through the race but was ultimately frustrated by Kimi who held him up.

“We will continue to work hard with Bruno in the simulator and on the track to help him maximise the new tyres’ performance.”

Willan called on both his drivers to raise their game in the next race at Montreal: “The team are looking forward to Montreal as we believe that we should be strong again, but we need to deliver in both qualifying and the race.

“Montreal is usually an eventful race, with multiple stops, high brake wear and with the chance of a safety car being very likely.”

Speiser out – Di Palma in

Richard Speiser is 2011 FIM World Long-Track Vice-Champion, but he won't have the opportunity to bring the title home again in 2012. Here is why.Richard, you are out for the upcoming season, what's going on?I had problems with my shoulder. It has dropped out six times now. I didn't have any problems riding at Plattling, but then my shoulder dislocated itself in the final heat. What are you doing now?I have to have an operation straight away because the shoulder is not stable enough to race... I wanted wait until after the season but I have no alternative. All the ligaments are broken and the joint is already damaged. Will you be out for the whole season or do you expect to make a comeback at the end of 2012?It will be a big operation and I shall need a long recovery. I hope I can do some meetings this year but I can't say right now. After the withdrawal of German rider Richard Speiser, French rider Théo Di Palma is the first on the substitute list and will wear race jacket n°21 for the FIM World Long-Track Championship in 2012.Text by Lydia RobinPhotos Gaedtke, SycoraBallot Final 1 - Forssa (Finland)Ballot, Finale 2 - Forus (Norway

IOMTT: McGuinness Sends a Message at First Practice Night

Monday night marked the first practice session for the returning riders to the Isle of Man TT, and John McGuinness got things started off on the right foot. While most riders at the TT spent the evening shaking off the cobwebs, sorting out new bikes, and generally getting a feel for thing, the 17-time Isle of Man TT race winner McGuinness went out onto the Mountain Course, dropped a 128.267 mph lap on his third ...

Ketomaa back in action

Story from www.wrc.com

Ketomaa, from Finland, is tackling selected rounds of the FIA World Rally Championship powered by Nokia this season, but has been absent from the series since its visit to the Algarve in late March.
DMACK has recently introduced its DMG+2 gravel tyre in accordance with governing body the FIA’s ‘joker’ system. It says the new closed tread pattern offers drivers enhanced levels of high-speed stability, while the new H1 compound provides increased durability.
Ketomaa was testing on rough gravel roads close to where the Acropolis Rally, Greece’s round of the WRC, took place last week and where DMACK was also in action in the Production Car World Rally Championship and Rally Class categories.
“Both the Acropolis Rally and the rough gravel test have been a great success for DMACK,” said the firm’s motorsport head Dick Cormack. “We introduced the DMG+2 as our new joker tyre for the rally and it’s been a huge step forward in terms of performance and durability. Of the 250 tyres fitted during the Acropolis Rally, DMACK had only one puncture.”
Cormack continued: “The test was to evaluate four new hard gravel compounds and constructions for the 2013 championship as part of our strategy to perform at the top level with the best teams, cars and drivers. It’s important for DMACK to be competing with Michelin, one of the greatest motorsport tyre brands in the world, and that’s really helped to raise our game and drive development forward.”

Stoner Hope for a Dry Race on Catalunya

Casey Stoner Le Mans 2012

Casey Stoner hope for a dry race on Catalunya this weekend. Stoner told that Catalunya is one of his favourite.  Now he is 8 points behind Lorenzo on the championship and if he want to keep the gap close, he need to win the race.

Stoner said, "Catalunya is one of my favourite races and it was the first major grand prix circuit I tested on. Ever since that moment I fell in love with the track, the big fast sweeping corners there's a lot of control in the middle of the turn trying to get grip for the exit."

He continue, "We know the Honda works well here and we had a good race here last year, I just hope this weekend will be dry, that would be great! After the race we have a test on Monday. I really hope the weather is good for us as it's an important test going forward for the remainder of the season."
