Ducati's and Ferrari's combined launch of their respective MotoGP and Formula One seasons culminated on Friday in the traditional race on Madonna di Campiglio's frozen lake. This year, Ducati's Valentino Rossi - assisted by his best friend Alessio 'Uccio' Salucci, teammate Nicky Hayden being out of action with a shoulder injury - took on Ferrari drivers Felipe Massa and Fernando Alonso in a kart race and in a race in Fiat 500s. Rossi took victory in the kart race, but had to concede top spot to Felipe Massa in the Fiat 500s, though the Italian still managed to beat former F1 World Champion Alonso in both races on ice.
With the event now behind them, Rossi and Hayden head home for two more weeks, before flying off to Sepang for the first test of the year on the 2012 Ducati Desmosedici GP12, the bike that never made it to the Wrooom event. The GP12s currently being assembled in Bologna head off to Jerez for a final test next week, with test rider Franco Battaini and 2011 World Superbike champion Carlos Checa in the saddle, before being shipped off to Sepang in time for the test commencing on January 31st.
